Congratulations to the nine members of 64 Naval Service Cadet Class who were commissioned on 24th June 2026. Our Vice President, Captain (NS) David Barry, represented ARCO at the ceremony and presented the ARCO award for best cadet to Sub Lieutenant Aiden Weber-Hobbs, and was photographed with the Chief of Staff, Lieutenant-General Rossa Mulcahy, the Secretary General of the Department of Defence Jacqui McCrum, and the Flag Officer Commanding Naval Service Commodore Darragh Kirwan.
Nine cadets were commissioned, five from Operations Branch and four from Engineering Branch.
Ensign Luke Byrne is from Wexford, and his father and sister are currently serving in the Air Corps. His grandfather served also with tours in the Congo, where he was at Jadotville, and in Cyprus.
Ensign Cillian Dunbar was a serving Ordinary Seaman in the Naval Service having enlisted in March 2024 before being awarded a cadetship.
