
ARCO regrets to inform its members of the death of Commandant Peter Conran of Naas, County Kildare and formerly Corbally, Limerick who passed peacefully at home on 24th June 2026 surrounded by his loving family after a short illness, courageously fought. Peter will be forever loved and greatly missed by his heartbroken wife Janet, adoring children Sinéad (Geraghty), Eoghan and Róisín, his cherished grandchildren Ella, Sophie, Kate, Finn, Oliver, Max, Tadhg and Jack, sons-in-law John and Tom, Eoghan’s fiancée Annmarie, his twin brother Ger and his brothers and sisters Pat, Mary, Sheila and Eileen, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family, neighbours, Defence Forces comrades and friends. Predeceased by his parents Larry and Maureen, brother Laurence and sister Kathleen.

Peter Conran was born on 5th May 1956 and grew up in Limerick where his father, Lieutenant-Colonel Larry Conran, served as an Engineer Officer in Sarsfield Barracks. He was educated at Cresent College Limerick which has a proud, historic pedigree in schools’ rugby. Peter excelled at the sport and would play it with distinction at both schools and club levels. He was a member of the Curragh Command Rugby Team that won the All Army in 1986. Peter was a very valued and active member of the Curragh Rugby Club from 1973 until around 1990, playing at hooker. The Curragh Rugby Club was a member of the Leinster Branch Junior League playing in Division One of the Leinster Junior League.
Having served as a Corporal in An Fórsa Cosanta Áitiúil, he became a member of 50 Cadet Class on 28th November 1973. Peter was commissioned into the Infantry Corps on 6th October 1975 and posted to 2 Infantry Battalion in Dublin. Having completed a Bachelor of Civil Engineering degree at the National University of Ireland, Galway between 1974 and 1978 he transferred to the Corps of Engineers. He would go on to become a Chartered Engineer and a Member of the Institution of Engineers in Ireland. During his military career Peter served in a wide variety of appointments in the Corps, including Depot Engineers, and served overseas in Lebanon with 55 Infantry Battalion in 1984 and UNIFIL Headquarters in 1987/1988. Retiring on 22nd October 1990 Peter continued his career as an engineer working for the Daughters of Charity, Pat Moore Builders, Risk Management Ireland and Furey Consulting Engineers.
Reposing at his home (W91 Y9RP) on Friday (26th June) from 4pm to 7pm with prayers at 6:30pm. Funeral on Saturday (27th June) with Requiem Mass at 10am at the Church of the Irish Martyrs, Ballycane, Naas, (https://www.naasparish.ie/our-parish/ballycane-webcam/) followed by burial at Saint Corban’s Cemetery, Naas.
