Col. Murt Clancy RIP

ARCO regrets to inform its members of the death of Colonel Thomas (Murt) Clancy of Dublin, Rosslare, County Wexford and Kilnaboy, County Clare. On 11th February 2021, peacefully at home surrounded by family. Deservedly mourned by his loving wife Aileen, children Brian, Emer, Niamh, Grainne, Conor and Orla. Sadly missed also by sons and daughters-in-law, cherished Grandchildren both in Ireland and Australia, friends, siblings, Defence Forces colleagues and his large extended family.

May his gentle soul Rest in Peace.

Murt (as he was popularly known in the Defence Forces) Clancy was born in County Clare on 22 April 1937.  He studied at University College Dublin and was qualified with a Bachelor of Engineering, Electrical and Mechanical.  He was commissioned into the Defence Forces and posted to the Ordnance Corps on 24 October 1958. He is particularly associated with the Ordnance Corps School in Clancy Barracks. On promotion to Colonel he was Director of Ordnance at a very busy operational time for the Corps, both at home and overseas.
