ARCO regrets to inform its members of the death of Commandant Thomas (Tom) McNally, of Lusk, County Dublin and formerly of Drogheda, County Louth. On February 1st, 2021, peacefully, at Lusk Community Unit. Sadly missed by his loving wife Rita, daughter Susan, son-in-law Patrick, brothers Peter and Aidan, sisters Ann, Cathy, Yvonne, Zita and Maeve, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives, and Defence Forces colleagues and friends.

Tom McNally was awarded a Cadetship in 1970 as a member of the 45 Cadet Class and was commissioned on 28 September 1972. He was appointed to the Artillery Corps, and posted to the School of Artillery, Magee Barracks, Kildare. Tom held numerous appointments within the Artillery Corps, serving in The Artillery School, 2 Field Artillery Regiment, 7 Field artillery Regiment (FCA) and 4 Air Defence Battery (FCA). He also served as a Staff Officer in Enlisted Personnel Section, Defence Forces Headquarters, and in Headquarters Eastern Command.
His overseas service included a tour of duty with UNTSO, and two tours with UNIFIL: HQ UNIFIL (1980), and Troop Commander, Heavy Mortar Troop, 55 Infantry Battalion (1984). On retiring from the Permanent Defence Force in June 2000, Tom was appointed to the Army Reserve and served in a civilian capacity with the United Nations in the Ivory Coast.
