ARCO regrets to inform its members of the death of Brigadier-General Ambrose (Amby) Brophy of Kilcullen, County Kildare & formerly of Tinryland, County Carlow. On 29th November 2020, peacefully, in the gentle care of the Curragh Lawns Nursing Home. Loving husband of the late Brigid (Bea). Deeply regretted by his brothers Cormac and Anto, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family, military colleagues, and a wide circle of friends.

Amby Brophy was a member of 21 Cadet Class, commissioned on 8th May 1950. His brother was the late Lieutenant Colonel Bill Brophy of 13 Cadet Class 1939-1940, who served in Headquarters 2 Brigade in Kilkenny and was Camp Commandant Coolmoney Camp when he retired. Amby served in Headquarters Curragh Command and on promotion to Lieutenant Colonel was Officer Commanding 3 Infantry Battalion followed by Command Adjutant. He served overseas in Naqoura as Camp Commandant at UNIFIL Headquarters. On promotion to Colonel he was Director Military Police Corps and was School Commandant of the Infantry School. As a Brigadier General he was Commandant of the Military College.
A private family funeral will take place due to advice on public gatherings. Removal from Anderson and Leahy Funeral Home, Newbridge, to arrive at the Church of the Sacred Heart and Saint Brigid, Kilcullen for 11am Mass on Wednesday.
