ARCOIreland regrets to inform its members of the death of Brigadier General Pearse Redmond of Raheny, Dublin on March 14, 2020. Beloved husband of Phil and much loved father of Lorna, Karen and Jocelyn. Pre-deceased by his sister Maureen and his brother Aidan; lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his family, sons-in-law Paul, Michael and Colm, grandchildren James, Zara, Jennifer, Freya and Zach, his brother Fr. Noel C.S.Sp, extended family and friends.
Pearse, born and raised beside McKee Barracks on Glenbeigh Road, was a member of 30 Cadet Class (1955 – 1957) and was commissioned in November 1957. He will be particularly remembered for his time in Ceremonial Section of the Adjutant General’s Branch, where he oversaw military participation in many state visits and national occasions. These included, in particular, the visit by Pope John Paul II to Ireland in 1979. He was an innovative and caring Secretary of Cumann Árachais Oifigeach an Ghnáth-Airm (CAOGA) where he helped improve the life cover it provided to the families of deceased officers. Among his other appointments was Aide de Camp to President Mary Robinson and Commandant of the Military College. Overseas, he served as Assistant Intelligence Officer with 4 Infantry Group in Cyprus in 1965 and as Officer Commanding, Force Mobile Reserve, UNIFL in 1990-1991. He returned to UNIFIL as Deputy Force Commander in April 1995 where, during his tour of duty, the Israeli Defence Forces conducted Operation Grapes of Wrath in April 1996.
Reposing at his home on Wednesday evening from 5 pm until 7 pm. A Memorial Mass for Pearse will be arranged at a later date.
