Veterans’ Day

ARCOIreland members and their families will be interested to hear about the inaugural Defence Forces Veterans’ Day, which will take place in the Defence Forces' Training Centre (DFTC), Curragh, on Tuesday 2nd September 2014 commencing at 1400 hrs. The date is particularly significant as it marks the 75th anniversary of the declaration of the Emergency in 1939.

The Veterans’ Day will reach out and honour retired members and their families. ARCOIreland, along with the other veterans’ organisations, has been invited to provide a Representative Body to participate in the ceremony.

The ceremony will consist of a short multi denominational religious service along with the laying of wreaths to honour fallen comrades. The event will provide an opportunity to meet old friends and comrades and a display of current Defence Forces’ equipment and systems will be held in conjunction with the event. Visitors will also have an opportunity to visit the Defence Forces Training Centre Museum. Refreshments will he served throughout the afternoon with DFTC Mess facilities available lo visitors that evening.

We ask that as many ARCOIreland members as possible attend this event and participate in the ceremony. Please contact our Hon Secretary, Lt. Co. Joe Ahern (Retd), through this link specifying the number of invitations you need for yourself and family members and provide us with an up-to-date mailing address.

We look forward to seeing you there on the day.
