RIP

ARCO regrets to inform its members of the death of Lieutenant (Naval Service) Gordon Thompson of Cork and Roches Point. On 13th October 2022, peacefully, in the excellent care of Saint Luke’s Home and with his family present. Dearly loved husband of Brenda, loving father of Ailsa and Brian, brother of the late Robbie, loving grandfather of Miriam, Rose, Ely, Luke, Emily, and Sam. Dear father-in-law of Martina and Laura. He will be sadly missed by his family, sister-in-law Susan, relatives, and a wide circle of friends.

At Peace

Gordon Thompson was a direct entry officer to the Naval Service and was a Master Mariner, from the Blue Star Line, United Kingdom. He served on LÉ Maev in 1969 where he completed at least two Sailing Orders. After his service in the Naval Service he joined the Cork Harbour Commissioners as Dredger Master and later Captain of the CHC John Sullivan.

Reception into Saint Michael’s Church, Church Road, Blackrock, took place on Saturday 15th October 2022 at 6.30pm. Funeral Service took place on Monday at 2.30pm in the Church of Saint Michael and All Angels, Corkbeg, Whitegate, with burial in adjoining churchyard.

Donations to Saint Luke’s Home or to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution.
