RIP

ARCO regrets to inform its members of the death of Lieutenant-Colonel Kevin Roberts of Glanmire, Cork and formerly of Dublin. On October 12th, 2023, peacefully in the presence of his loving family and in the tender loving care of all the staff at the Bon Secours Hospital. Darling husband of Maura, most loving dad of Róisín and Deirdre, adored grandad of Kevin and Thea, dear brother of the late Paddy, Phil, Larry, Mary, Nuala, and Marcella. Lovingly remembered by his wife and family, sons-in-law Jimmy and Johnny, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, cousins, relatives, Defence Forces comrades, his colleagues and friends at the Link Road Medical Centre, Ballincollig and Collins Barracks.

Kevin Roberts trained as a doctor and was commissioned into the Defence Forces as a Medical Officer in 1976. Having served in Saint Bricins Military Hospital in Dublin, he was then posted to the Western Command and finally to the General Military Hospital in Collins Barracks, Cork. Kevin served overseas as Medical Officer with 46 Infantry Battalion UNIFIL in Lebanon from October 1979 to May 1980 under Lieutenant-Colonel Jack Kissane and returned to Lebanon from November 1991 to April 1992 to serve as Medical Officer with 70 Infantry Battalion. Kevin retired from the Defence Forces in 2007 while serving as Officer Commanding the General Military Hospital in Cork and took up General Practice in Ballincollig. Having a keen interest in soccer, Kevin represented the Defence Forces for many years with the Football Association of Ireland. Despite being diagnosed with a very debilitating condition, Kevin continued to care for his patients until the onset of COVID in March 2020.

Funeral afterwards to Saint Joseph’s Cemetery, Little Island. Family flowers only, please. Donations, if desired, to a charity of your own choice.
