Lt Col Aidan Martin RIP

RIP

ARCO regrets to inform its members of the death of Lieutenant-Colonel Aidan Martin of Elkwood, Ballyroan, Dublin and formerly of Knockvicar, County Roscommon. Peacefully, On 30th April 2024, in the care of Ryevale Nursing Home. Beloved husband of Nora, cherished dad of Enda and Elaine, and caring grandad of Grace, Isabel, George, Henry, Ben, Alice, and Jamie. Aidan will be deeply missed and remembered always by his loving family, his son-in-law Patrick, his brothers Noel, Killian (deceased) and Fred, his sisters-in-law, brother-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives, Defence Forces comrades and friends.

Aidan Martin was born on 22nd September 1944 in Knockvicar, County Roscommon. Having completed his secondary education in Summerhill College, Sligo, he enlisted in the Defence Forces on 7th October 1963 as a member of 38 Cadet Class and was commissioned into the Infantry Corps on 27th September 1965. Aidan served initially with 2 Infantry Battalion in Cathal Brugha Barracks and, among other appointments, as a Training Officer with 21 Infantry Battalion FCA in Carnew, County Wicklow. Aidan will be remembered in particular for his service in Q Administration of the Quartermaster Generals Branch in Defence Forces Headquarters where he supported many units of the Defence Forces, both at home and overseas. Aidan later served in the Defence Forces Canteen Board.

Reposing in the Ruah Centre, Ballyroan (D14 T0C8) on Thursday (2nd May) from 4pm to 6pm. Funeral Mass on Friday, at 10am, in the Church of the Holy Spirit, Ballyroan with cremation thereafter in Newlands Cross Crematorium (12 noon).
