ARCO regrets to inform its members of the death of Lieutenant-Commander Peter Dunne of Marian Crescent, Rathfarnham, Dublin on November 10th, 2021. Predeceased by his son Paul. Peacefully, surrounded by family and cared for by the wonderful staff at Harvey Nursing Home, Terenure. Peter will be forever loved and sadly missed by his wife Mary, loving family Pat, Peter Jr and Mairead, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, and a wide circle of friends especially those whom he served with in the Irish Defence Forces over his 43-year career.

Peter Dunne was born on 10th April 1933. He enlisted in the Naval Service as a rating on 17th July 1950 and rose to the rank of Chief Petty Officer. He was selected as a student on 2 Potential Officers’ Course and was commissioned as a Lieutenant in the Army on 7th December 1970. Among the units he served with during his time in the green uniform was the Ordnance Survey Company in the Phoenix Park. Peter eventually returned to the Naval Service and was posted to Naval Service Headquarters, which was then located in Dublin. As Personal Staff Officer to the Flag Officer Commanding Naval Service his wise council and wide experience were valued by all who served with him. Peter was elected as a Naval Service Regional Representative at the 13th ARCO AGM, held in 2007, and was re-elected at subsequent AGMs until his retirement from the EXCOM at the 2012 AGM.
Reposing at Massey Brothers’ Funeral Home, Templeogue Village this Sunday evening from 2pm to 4pm. Removal on Monday morning to the Church of The Holy Spirit, Ballyroan, Marian Road, arriving for 10.00am. Requiem Mass with cremation thereafter at 12.15pm in the Victorian Chapel, Mount Jerome Crematorium. (Covid – 19 protective measures must be adhered to). Family flowers only.
