Lt Cdr Aidan Kehoe RIP


ARCO regrets to inform its members of the death of Lieutenant-Commander Aidan Kehoe of Glenwood, Carrigaline, County Cork. On September 14th 2023, peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, at Cork University Hospital. Beloved husband of the late Anne. Loving and much-loved father of Joan (Desmond), Audrey (O’Driscoll) and Shane. Sadly missed by his sons-in-law Michael and Sammy, daughter-in-law Kerry, grandchildren Sarah, Jamie, Luke, Nathan, Jason, Nicholas, Jack, Andrew, Daniel, David, Adam and Ciara, brother Declan, sisters, Catherine, Eithne and Moira, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours, Defence Forces colleagues, and a large circle of friends.

Originally from Dublin, Aidan Kehoe joined Irish Shipping Ltd in 1962 and completed his deck cadetship before serving with Esso Tankers in senior seagoing appointments. He was commissioned into the Naval Service as a Lieutenant (NS) in 1972 and served on minesweepers before taking command of LE Banba. He later commanded LE Aoife and LE Emer including undertaking several UNIFIL resupply voyages in the 1980s. He completed the Command and Staff Course in 1986 and later served a tour of duty with the United Nations Observer Group in Central America in El Salvador. Aidan served in senior staff appointments in Naval Headquarters, Dublin and at the Naval Base, Haulbowline. On retiring from the Naval Service in 1996 he served as the Harbour Master, Kilmore Quay, before retiring to Carrigaline.

Reposing at Forde’s Funeral Home, Old Waterpark, Carrigaline on Monday (18th) from 5.00pm until 6.00pm. Requiem Mass on Tuesday (19th) at 11.30am at the Church of Our Lady Star of the Sea, Haulbowline which may be viewed at:  Funeral afterwards to The Island Crematorium which may be viewed at:
