RIP

ARCO regrets to inform its members of the death of Father Gerard (Gerry) Dowd S.D.B., The Bungalow, Yellow Road, Aughamuckey, Castlecomer, County Kilkenny on 11th June 2026, surrounded by his family, in the wonderful care of the Staff at Castlecomer District Hospital. Pre-deceased by his father Bill, brother Liam, nephew Lorcan, aunts and uncles. Gerard will be sadly missed by his loving mother Sheila, sisters Carmel, Dodo, Cecilia, Paula & Sharon, brother Tom, his uncle Joe (Australia), sisters-in-law Piccola and Marian, brothers-in-law Andrew, Gerard and Steve, nephews and nieces, grandnephews and grandnieces, his Salesian Family, Defence Forces comrades, relatives, friends and neighbours.

Requiescat in Pace

Father Gerry Dowd served as a much respected and admired Chaplain to the Forces. He was a member of the Salesian Order for 52 years and a priest for 44 years. Father Gerry served in the Curragh from 2003 to 2004, in Custume Barracks, Athlone from 2004 to 2021, and overseas, including in Lebanon and in Kosovo.

Reposing in Coady’s Funeral Home, Castlecomer (R95 AK38) on Sunday 14th June from 3pm. Vigil Prayers and Rosary on Sunday evening at 6pm, followed by removal to the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Castlecomer.

Requiem Mass will be celebrated on Monday at 12 Noon. Fr. Gerard will be laid to rest thereafter in the adjoining cemetery. The Funeral Mass can be viewed HERE
