ARCO regrets to inform its members of the death of Colonel Terence (Terry) Higgins of Rochestown, Cork and formerly of Cobh, County Cork. On January 25th, 2021, peacefully, in the excellent care of the staff at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Mount Desert. Beloved husband of the late Catherine (Kaye), predeceased by his brothers Kevin, Oliver, Brian and Kieran, his sisters Audrey (O’Connell) and Rose (Casey). Sadly missed by his nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, neighbours, relatives and Defence Forces colleagues and friends.

A native of Cobh, Terry Higgins was born on January 11th, 1927 and was a member of the 20 Cadet Class 1946/1948. Commissioned into the Infantry Corps he was initially posted to the General Training Depot in the Curragh. Among the appointments that Terry most cherished was that of Officer Commanding 4th Infantry Battalion, which he held during 1979-1980, a unit he had long associations with throughout his career having served as a platoon commander, staff officer and company commander. His overseas service included duty with 34 Infantry Battalion ONUC in 1961, 40 Infantry Battalion UNFICYP in 1964 and 20 Infantry Group UNFICYP in 1971. In the latter part of his career Terry served in DFHQ as OIC A administration, in Western Command as Commander 4 Brigade and with Southern Command as Second in Command and Executive Officer. Always a great rugby follower he played with Cobh Pirates, Dolphin and Southern Command for many seasons.
A private family funeral will take place in accordance with current guidelines. The family thank you for your co-operation and understanding at this difficult time.
