Col Frank Blake RIP

RIP

ARCO regrets to inform its members of the death of Colonel Francis J P (Frank) Blake of Dublin and formerly Carrigaholt, Athlone. Peacefully in Beaumont Hospital, Dublin on 16th January 2024. Beloved husband of Patricia, loving father to Louise, brother to Alice and cousin of Rev Fr John O’Connor. Frank will be sadly missed by brother-in-law Joe, sisters-in-law Michele, Maura and Teresa, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Predeceased by his brothers John and Dermot, sisters Eileen, Sr Mary, Kathleen and Colum and sisters-in-law Sr Rosaleen Browne, Eileen Blake and brothers-in-law Louis Browne, Harry Greene, and Tommy Sheahan.

Frank Blake was born on 11th March 1932 and was commissioned on 21st January 1955 as a Direct Entry Engineer Corps officer. At home Frank served in a wide range of Engineer Corps appointments, particularly with the Western Command in Athlone and the Eastern Command in Dublin. As a Captain he served with the United Nations in the Congo as Engineer Officer with 37 Infantry Battalion from May to October 1962. He served in Cyprus as Engineer Officer with 3 Infantry Group from July to December 1964.

Reposing at Flanagan’s Funeral Home, Willbrook, Rathfarnham on Friday, 19th January 2024, between 4.30 pm and 6.30 pm. Funeral Mass Saturday, 20th January, in Saint Mary’s Church, Athlone at 12 noon followed by Burial in Coosan Cemetery, County Westmeath. Family flowers only.
