ARCO regrets to inform its members of the death of Captain John (Jack) Phelan of Foxrock, Dublin 18 and formerly and proudly of Doneraile, County Cork, who passed away on Wednesday, 17th February 2021, peacefully in his 94th year, in the wonderful care of Belmont House Nursing Home after a full life, well lived.
A loving husband for 59 years to his devoted wife Elizabeth (Betty), deeply loved by his children John, James, Carol Ann, Niall, and Paul; their partners Lynda, Ali, Mike, Claudia and Kristie and his grandchildren Gracie, Rosie, Rebecca, Hannah, William, Joshua and Daniel. He will be sadly missed by his extended family, especially the Lysaght, Rea and Walsh cousins in Cork, his adoring family, relatives, friends and neighbours as well as his past colleagues in the Defence Forces, RNLI, and TV & Film industry.

Jack Phelan was a member of 19 Cadet Class 1945-1947 and was commissioned into the Infantry Corps. Having been promoted to the rank of Captain he retired to follow a career in the TV and Film industry working as a producer and production manager on features and commercials. Among the films he worked on were Hudson Hawk, The Country Girl, Educating Rita, Excalibur, The First Great Train Robbery, and The McKenzie Break. Jack also had a long association with the RNLI.
Jack’s Funeral Mass will take place privately on Monday (22nd February) at 10am in the Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Succour, Foxrock.
