ARCO regrets to inform its members of the death of Captain Robert (Bob) Tweedy of Monkstown, County Dublin on 1st December 2025. Peacefully, in the wonderful care of the staff at the Fern Dean Nursing Home, Blackrock. Beloved husband of Anne (Wedick) and adored father of Lynda, Anne and Robert. He will be sadly missed by his wife, children, son-in-law Niall, daughter-in-law Tara, grandchildren Ellen, Laura, Rachel, Greg, Matthew and Tom, great-grandsons Leo and Sam, sisters Elizabeth and Jean, extended family, Air Corps and Defence Forces comrades, and many friends.
At Peace
Bob Tweedy was a member of the Air Corps 5 Short Service Class 1957/58 and, following retirement from the Defence Forces, returned regularly on reserve training to share his considerable aviation expertise. During his distinguished flying career with Aer Lingus, Bob gave great service to the Irish Airline Pilots’ Association and went on to have the distinction of being appointed President of the International Federation of Airline Pilots’ Associations from 1981 to 1985. This was only the second time an Irish airline pilot had held this role. Following his retirement from Aer Lingus, Bob worked with the Irish Aviation Authority.
Regretfully, ARCO only received word of Bob’s passing after his funeral had taken place, which was held on Thursday 4th December at 11.30am in Monkstown Parish Church and was followed by a committal service in Mount Jerome Crematorium, Harold’s Cross.
Donations if desired to the Alzheimer’s Society of Ireland (https://alzheimer.ie/).
