Strategic Narratives in Ireland’s Defence Forces
ARCO has been asked by Dr John Hogan, from the Department of Political Science and Public Administration at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, to circulate its members with a request to participate in a research study titled ‘Strategic Narratives in Ireland’s Defence Forces’ which he is leading.
The project investigates the strategic narratives of Óglaigh na hÉireann – both the official narratives reflected in military doctrine and government policy, and the lived narratives of its military personnel. To carry out this research, Dr Hogan is hoping to speak with active and retired members of the Irish Defence Forces.
The Association of Retired Commissioned Officers represents an invaluable source of experience and insight, and Dr Hogan would welcome the opportunity to speak with any members who are willing to share their perspectives. Interviews will be conversational in nature, and participants are welcome to raise any issues they consider relevant to Ireland’s approach to defence and security.
This project has received full ethics approval from the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. Participants’ anonymity is guaranteed, and all interview data will be stored and handled in accordance with appropriate ethical standards.
