ARCO regrets to inform its members of the death of Lieutenant Colonel Michael (Mick) Bohan, Tully West, Kildare Town, Kildare. Peacefully, on Tuesday 5th December 2023, at Lourdesville Nursing Home surrounded by his loving family.
Sadly missed by his loving wife Pat, children Niall, Sheena and Enda, grandchildren Killian, Hugo, Tom, Billy and Jamie, daughters-in-law Anna, Amanda, and Sheena’s partner Lio, brother Brian, brother-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours, Defence Forces comrades and friends.

Mick Bohan was born in Dublin on 7th April 1936 and enlisted in the Defence Forces as a member of 29 Cadet Class on 10th December 1954. He was commissioned as an Infantry officer on 26th November 1956. Having served in a number of unit appointments he was an instructor in both the Infantry School and the Cadet School as a Commandant. Promoted to Lieutenant Colonel in February 1987 he held the distinction of commanding 5 Infantry Battalion, 29 Infantry Battalion and 3 Infantry Battalion.
Among his overseas service Mick was a Lieutenant Platoon Commander, C Company 33 Infantry Battalion in 1960. As a Commandant he was Quartermaster, 46 Infantry Battalion in Lebanon from October 1979 to May 1980, and commanded 65 Infantry Battalion from May to October 1989.
A noted dual GAA player Mick was a member of the Dublin team, playing in the Half-Forward Line, which lost narrowly to Tipperary by a single point in the 1961 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship.
Removal by Glennon’s Funeral Directors on Friday morning to arrive at Saint Brigid’s Church, The Curragh, for funeral Mass at 10am. Cremation afterwards at Newlands Cross Crematorium at 12:30pm. Family flowers only, please.
