Lt Col Fergus Marshall RIP

RIP

ARCO regrets to inform its members of the death of Lieutenant-Colonel Fergus Marshall, Ennis County Clare, and Mullingar County Westmeath, on 31st July 2023 at University Hospital Kerry. Predeceased by his beloved wife, June Marshall (née Travers) and brothers Frank and Eddie. Sadly missed by his loving children Paul, Hugh, Fergus Jnr, David and Rosanne, daughters-in-law Fi, Ciara and son-in-law Gavin, grandchildren Julia, Margot, Theo, Myles, Oisin, Luca and Finn, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours, Defence Forces comrades and friends.

Fergus Marshall enlisted in the Defence Forces as a member of 37 Cadet Class on 2nd October 1962 and was a member of the Guard of Honour drawn from that class which rendered military honours at the graveside of President John F. Kennedy on 25th November 1963. Fergus was commissioned on 28th September 1964 into the Supply and Transport Corps and served in 2 Garrison Company S&T in McKee Barracks Dublin and in 2 Field Company S&T in Collins Barracks Dublin. In the Western Command he served with 4 Field Company S&T, Mullingar and 5 Field Company S&T (FCA), Galway. He completed many overseas tours of duty including periods with UNFICYP, UNTSO, and UNIFIL. Fergus was Acting Director of the Supply and Transport Corps, in the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel, when he retired from the Defence Forces in 2002.

An active sportsman throughout his life his interests included rugby, competitive swimming, scuba diving and sailing. He was a founder member of the Defence Forces Sub Aqua Group and the Defence Forces Adventure Sports Association.

Reposing at Kennedy’s Funeral Home, Ennis on Friday (4th August) from 6 pm until 8 pm. Arriving to Ennis Cathedral on Saturday (5th August) for Funeral Mass at 11 am. Private cremation to follow.
