ARCO regrets to inform its members of the death of Captain Laurence (Larry) Hayes, Cappanuke, Cappamore, County Limerick. On 3rd July 2023, peacefully, at the University Hospital Limerick surrounded by his loving family. Sadly missed by his loving wife Anne, son Ronan, daughter Sarah, Ronan’s partner Michelle, son-in-law Shane, his beloved grandchildren Rachel, Sorcha and Evan, Rachel’s partner Nathan, sisters Kathleen and Elizabeth, relatives, Defence Forces colleagues and friends.

Larry Hayes was born in Limerick on 10th April 1942 and enlisted in the Defence Forces as an apprentice Armament Artificer on 20th August 1957 at the age of fifteen. He was posted to 3 Garrison Ordnance Company in Cork on the completion of his apprenticeship. Larry was selected as a member of 2 Potential Officers Course in 1970 and was posted on commissioning to 2 Field Signal Company in Dublin. He also served with DFHQ Signal Company and for his final posting was Quartermaster, 12 Infantry Battalion in Limerick. A keen and talented golfer Larry retired from the Defence Forces in the early 1980s to take up the position of Secretary Manager of Castletroy Golf Club and was a much-respected executive member of The Irish Golf and Club Managers Association, having served as its President in 1988.
Arrival on Friday, 7th July, to Holy Rosary Church, Murroe for Requiem Mass at 11.30 a.m. which can be viewed HERE with burial afterwards in Abington Cemetery. No Mass cards or wreaths please, donations in lieu to Milford Hospice. House strictly private please.
