ARCO regrets to inform its members of the death of Lieutenant-Colonel Frank O’Donovan, Fairyhill, Blackrock, County Dublin. On August 31st, 2022, peacefully in the loving care of the staff of Ashford House Nursing Home. Predeceased recently by his loving wife Kit. He will be greatly missed by his adoring children Hannah, Mark, Isobel and Edmond and loving grandchildren and great grandchildren Nicholas, Sinead, Nieve, Ellen, Stephen, Katie, Thady, Laoise, Charlotte and Patrick, extended family, especially in-laws Herbie, Sally-Anne and Susan, and Defence Forces colleagues and friends.

Frank O’Donovan was born on 7th January 1931. A native of Cork he was educated at Presentation Brothers College, Cork City. Frank enlisted in the Defence Forces as a Cadet with 25 Cadet Class in November 1950 and was commissioned into the Infantry Corps on 24th November 1952. A great all-round sportsman he was one of the first Cadets to win an All-Army Rugby medal. Frank was a noted swimmer and water polo player and was Past President of Lansdowne Football Club. The appointments he held included Training Officer with 21 Infantry Battalion FCA, and Staff Officer, Command Quartermaster’s Office, Eastern Command. He was Officer Commanding 2 Infantry Battalion and Cathal Brugha Barracks in 1981/83.
Reposing at Massey Bros Funeral Home, 5 Newtown Park, Blackrock on Monday 5th September from 5pm to 7pm. Frank’s Funeral Mass will take place on Tuesday morning September 6th at 10.00am at the Church of the Guardian Angels, Newtown Park Avenue followed by Cremation at the Victorian Chapel Mount Jerome at 1.00pm.
