ARCO regrets to inform its members of the death of Lieutenant Colonel John Gahan of Kildare Town and formerly of Clonmel, County Tipperary. On Thursday, 20th May 2021, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Sadly missed by his beloved wife Ber, daughters Grace and Paula, son Edward, son-in-law Michael, grandson Emmet, Paula’s partner Nikhil, sister Martha (Army Nursing Service), brothers Tony and Ward, brothers-in-law, sister-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours, Defence Forces colleagues and friends.

John Gahan was born in Clonmel, County Tipperary in October 1945. He was educated at Clonmel High School and University College Cork where he completed a degree in civil engineering. John was commissioned as a direct entry officer to the Defence Forces in March 1969. He served initially in 1 Field Engineer Company in Cork and later in Depot Engineers in the Curragh. He served overseas and was Acting Director of Engineering at Defence Forces Headquarters.
Due to current government guidelines regarding public gatherings, a private family funeral will take place. Removal on Wednesday morning to arrive at St. Mary’s Church, Cahir, Co. Tipperary for Requiem Mass at 12 mid-day. Burial afterwards in the adjoining Cemetery.
