Oireachtas Captain of the Guard

ARCO members will be interested to see that The Houses of the Oireachtas Service, on the proposal of the Taoiseach, is running a competition to select the best qualified candidate with the required knowledge, skills, and attributes to meet the requirements of the role of Captain of the Guard of the Houses of the Oireachtas. The Taoiseach has absolute discretion whether or not to appoint a candidate to the position from this competition.

The Captain of the Guard is an Officer of the Houses of the Oireachtas and works as Deputy Head of the Superintendent’s Unit. The primary function of the unit is to maintain security and decorum in the Parliamentary Chambers and across the Leinster House complex and its environs.

The deadline for receipt of applications is 1 pm on Friday, 12 February 2021.

For information, successful candidates to date have been serving officers of the Defence Forces.
