ARCOIreland regrets to inform its mambers of the death of Commandant Colm Browne DSM, “Anaverna”, Whitecross, Julianstown, County and formerly of Omeath, County Louth. On April 28th 2018, in his 96th year, peacefully, at home surrounded by his loving family. Much loved husband of Leontia (nee Courtney) and the late Mary (nee Bell). Beloved father of Helen (Cremin), Ann ( Lyons), Colm, and Niamh (Mitchell), brother of Padraig and the late Maire and adored grandfather and great-grandfather. Sadly missed by a wide circle of family and friends.
Colm served in the Western and Eastern Commands. He was awarded a DSM for his ” leadership and devotion to duty” when serving with the 35 Battalion in the Congo in 1961. He was an officer of the Supply & Transport Corps and in the early 70s was Mess President of DFHQ Officers Mess, McKee Barracks. A noted footballer, he won an All-Ireland Minor title with Louth in 1940 and later played senior football with Galway.
Reposing at his home on Monday (April 30th) from 5pm to 8pm. Removal to St. Mary’s Church, Julianstown, for funeral Mass at 11am on Tuesday (May 1st) followed by burial in Moorechurch Cemetery. Family flowers only.
