The 12th Defence Forces Veterans’ Day was held in McKee Barracks, Dublin, on Sunday, 28th September 2025.
Veterans’ Day recognises and celebrates the service of all former members of Óglaigh na hÉireann and commemorates those Irish soldiers who lost their lives serving the State and in the service of peace. It also pays tribute to the sacrifices that are made by the families and dependents of service personnel. The attendance, therefore, of the broader Defence Community in Sunday’s ceremonies was significant and appropriate.
Wreaths were laid by An Tánaiste and Minister for Defence Simon Harris TD, Major-General Kiernan Brennan (IUNVA), Major-General Maureen O’Brien DSM (ARCO), Michael Kinehan (ONET) and Gerry Brennan (REMA), recognising the support these organisations provide to veterans.
The day provided a welcome opportunity for all veterans to reconnect and renew old friendships and comradeship and the attendance of Unit, Corps associations and clubs, with whom all veterans can identify, enhanced the day.
