RIP

ARCO regrets to inform its members of the death of Lieutenant-Colonel Ultan Lyons, Ballyroan Road, Rathfarnham, Dublin 14. On Tuesday, 18th July 2023, peacefully, in the wonderful kind care of the staff of Kiltipper Woods Care Home. Beloved husband of the late Constance (Connie), loving dad to Martine and Monica, much loved grandad of Kathy, Lauren, and Carl, and doting great-grandfather of Isla, Izzy, and Amelia. Ultan will be forever loved and very sadly missed by his loving children, son-in-law Cathal, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family, former neighbours, Defence Forces colleagues and friends, and the residents, and staff of Kiltipper Woods Care Home.

Ultan Lyons was commissioned into the Air Corps as an Aeronautical Engineer Officer. He oversaw the trial and acceptance of many of the key purchases of Air Corps aircraft, including the Gulfstream IV government jet in 1991. He also led the project team for the procurement and installation of the new fuel farm in Casement Aerodrome, Badonnel. Ultan served in the key engineer appointments in the Air Corps from the 1960s to 1998 on his way to becoming Chief Aeronautical Officer with the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel.

Reposing at his residence this Thursday evening (20th July 2023), from 5pm to 7pm. Removal on Friday morning to The Church of the Holy Spirit, Ballyroan, arriving for 10am Requiem Mass, followed by burial in Bohernabreena Cemetery.
