ARCO regrets to inform its members of the death of Lieutenant-Colonel Ron Gallagher of Mount Merrion, County Dublin, who passed away at home on Sunday morning, 7th September 2025. Pre-deceased by his beloved wife Bríd, his sister Olive and his brothers Joe, Noel, Louis and Paddy. Lovingly missed by his seven children Niall, Maeve, Eimear, Aoife, Kevin, Michael and John, along with his brother Val, sisters Judy and Mary, his sons in law, daughters in law, 15 wonderful grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins, friends, neighbours, Defence Forces comrades, and his wonderful carer Sugar.
Howard Ronald (Ron) Gallagher was born 17th June 1934 and graduated from University College Dublin with a Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical and Electrical) degree and was commissioned into the Army Ordnance Corps on 23rd June 1957. He initially served in Athlone with 4 Garrison Ordnance Company and from 1975 in Clancy Barracks as School Commandant of the Ordnance School. Overseas Ron served in Cyprus with 3 Infantry Group in 1964/1965. Ron retired from the Permanent Defence Force on 5th November 1979 and continued to serve in the Reserve of Officers (First Line) until 16th June 1999.
Reposing at Massey Brothers Funeral Home, Goatstown, D14 X348 on Tuesday 9th September from 15.00 to 17.00 and afterwards at home. Ron’s Funeral service will take place at Newlands Cross Crematorium Chapel on Wednesday morning, 10th September at 10.00 am.
