ARCOIreland regrets to inform its members of the death of Commandant Patrick (Paddy) Lane, late of Templeogue, Dublin and formerly of 17 Coburg Street, Cork City. Peacefully, on Sunday 14th January 2018, in the loving care of Saint Gladys nursing home. Predeceased by his wife Patricia (Paddy). Beloved and much-loved father of Nikki, Holly, Rossa and Barra. Deeply missed by his family, nine beloved grandchildren, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, relatives, and many friends. Paddy’s body was donated to Trinity College in aid of medical research, as was his wish.
Paddy was a member of 22nd Cadet Class and on commissioning in December 1950 was posted to the Cavalry Depot. He later served in 1 Motor Squadron, 1 Armoured Car Squadron, 4 Motor Squadron, 2 Motor Squadron and was Squadron Commander, 5 Motor Squadron FCA. Paddy retired in June 1974 and remained on the Reserve with 2 Cavalry Squadron. He served overseas in the Congo with the Armoured Car Group of 37 Infantry Battalion and in Cyprus as Technical Officer with the Armoured Car Group of 3 Infantry Group.
An informal gathering of family and friends to celebrate Paddy’s life will be held on Saturday, 3rd February, in Darcy McGee’s, Spawell Complex, Templeogue, from 2 pm to 4 pm. All who had a connection to Paddy are welcome to join the family.
