ARCO regrets to inform its members of the death of Commandant Paddy Gore, of Wexford Town, and late of Mallow, County Cork, on December 11th, 2023. Beloved husband of Vera, loving father of Elaine, Stephen, Patrick, Niamh and Kevin, brother of Noel, Don, Mary, Johnny and Bridget. Sadly missed by his family, son-in-law Woody, daughter-in-law Helena, Patrick’s partner Barbara, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, grandchildren Cian, Sara, Jasmine, Alyssa, Aubree, Ivie and Oscar, nephews, nieces, relatives, Defence Forces comrades and friends.

Patrick J (Paddy) Gore was born in County Cork on 13th September 1952 and grew up and was educated in Mallow. He enlisted in the Defence Forces on 6th April 1972 as a Cadet with 47 Cadet Class. Commissioned into the Infantry Corps on 2nd April 1973, Paddy was posted as a Platoon Commander with 3 Infantry Battalion, Connolly Barracks in the Curragh Camp. He later served as the Barrack Services Officer in the Curragh. In Stephens Barracks, Kilkenny, Paddy held a range of appointments with 30 Infantry Battalion and was Officer Commanding 10 Infantry Battalion, An Fórsa Cosanta Áitiúil, at Wexford Military Barracks. On 15th October 1979, he deployed to Lebanon on United Nations service as a Staff Officer at UNIFIL HQ in the Logistics Branch.
A talented hurler and rugby player, Paddy was a past Captain of the Curragh Rugby Club.
Paddy was seriously injured in a road traffic accident on 17th July 2000, as result of which he retired from the Defence Forces and went into business in his adopted Wexford.
Funeral Mass in the Church of the Assumption, Bride Street, Wexford Town, on Wednesday at 10am. Cremation will take place privately. House private please, family only. You are welcome to join in the celebration of Paddy’s funeral Mass at: www.wexfordparish.com
