Comdt Liam Dunne RIP

RIP

ARCO regrets to inform its members of the death of Commandant Liam Dunne of Back Lane, Carlingford and formerly Portlaoise and Dublin. Peacefully, on Monday 29th January 2024, at Our Lady Of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, in the presence of his loving family. Predeceased by his beloved wife Cecilia and daughter Una. Very deeply regretted by his daughter Helen and sons Eoin and Colm. Liam will be sadly missed by his loving daughter, sons, daughters-in-law Una, and Jane, son-in-law Larry, grandchildren, David, Ciara, Colm, Aoife, Michael, Joe, Rebecca, Annie, Cecilia, Conor, and Cassie, great-grandchildren Ronan, Liam, Neve, Josh, Sloane, Luke, Gabriel, and Hugo, sister Marie, sister-in-law Bernadette Noonan, (Seattle), nephews, nieces, relatives, Defence Forces comrades and friends. Liam was a brother of the late Colonel Tommy Dunne and an uncle of Lieutenant-Colonel Seán Dunne.

Liam Dunne was born in 1933 and enlisted in the Defence Forces as a member of 27 Cadet Class (1953-1954). He was commissioned into the Infantry Corps on 6th December 1954 and served initially in the Western Command with An Chéad Chathlán Coisithe in Galway. Liam also served in Athlone, and with 16 Infantry Battalion An Fórsa Cosanta Áitiúil in Tullamore County Offaly.  He served in the Curragh Command and for his last posting, on promotion to Commandant in 1977, with 27 Infantry Battalion in Dundalk. Liam retired in 1979. 

Reposing at his residence from 7.00pm Tuesday for neighbours and friends to call. Removal on Thursday morning at 11.00am proceeding on foot via Back Lane and The Square to Saint Michael’s Church, Carlingford arriving for Requiem Mass at 11.30am. Burial afterwards in Saint Michael’s Cemetery.
