ARCOIreland regrets to inform its members of the deaths of two classmates from 2 Potential Officers Course, Commandant John Lyons, Ballyhaunis, County Mayo and Commandant Sean Conlon, Blanchardstown, Dublin. Those who would have liked to attend the funerals, but due to current restrictions cannot, may leave personal messages on rip.ie.
The death has occurred, peacefully, at Ava Maria Nursing Home, Tooreen, of Commandant John Lyons, Beech Lawn, Ballyhaunis, formerly of Main Street, Ballyhaunis. Predeceased by his parents Thomas and Margaret, his sister Margaret and brother James. Sadly missed by his beloved sisters Mary and Eileen, brothers Tommy and George, nieces Rosemary, Emer, Aileen, Margaret and Laura, nephews David and William, brothers-in-law Billy and Henry, grandnieces, grandnephews, neighbours and friends.
Due to the current Covid 19 situation a private funeral will take place at Donnellan’s Funeral Home on Tuesday evening. Funeral Mass will take place at St Patrick’s Church, Ballyhaunis, for family members only, on Wednesday at 11am will be broadcast on Ballyhaunis webcam. Burial afterwards in the local cemetery. A memorial Mass will be held at a later date. Donations, in lieu of flowers, can be made to the Parkinsons Association of Ireland care of Donnellans Undertakers, Ballyhaunis.
John was a member of 2 Potential Officers Course, was commissioned on 7th December 1970, and was posted to 12 Infantry Battalion. He was later transferred to the Signals Corps and served with 2 Field Signal Company and commanded 11 Field Signal Company FCA.
Safely home in the arms of Our Lord
The death has occurred of Commandant John James (Sean) Conlon, Blanchardstown, Dublin 15 and formerly of Ballinamore, County Leitrim. On March 23rd, 2020 peacefully in the loving care of the staff at Clearbrook Nursing Home, Cappagh. Beloved husband to Bunny and father (Da) to Iain, Lisa, Susan, Conor, Gemma. He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren Saoirse, Ben, Sophie, Sam, Jude, Max, Matilda, Isabella, Niamh, Beibhinn, Isla Grace and Lily; his son-in-laws Tony, Paul, Mark and daughters-in-law Veronica and Janice, as well as his brothers and sisters, extended family and friends.
A private family funeral will take place due to Government advice regarding public gatherings. House strictly private please. A memorial service for Sean will be arranged at a later date. Donations, in lieu of flowers, to www.parkinsons.ie.
Sean was also a member of 2 Potential Officers Course, was commissioned on 7th December 1970, and was posted to 2 Field Supply and Transport Company. He later served with Base Workshops Supply and Transport Corps and Depot Ordnance Corps.
