Comdt Joe Lynch RIP

RIP

ARCO regrets to inform its members of the death of Commandant Joe Lynch of Blackwater Vale, Monaghan Town. On Sunday 6th October 2024, peacefully, surrounded by his loving family in the wonderful care of the staff in Cavan General Hospital. Joe is predeceased by his wife Maureen and by his brothers, Jim and Paddy. Joe will be forever loved and missed by his son Breffni (Kelly), his daughter Sinéad, his adored grandchildren Seosamh and Ciaran, his sisters Monica and Ann, his brother Brian, his nieces, nephews, neighbours, Defence Forces comrades and friends.

May Joe’s Gentle Soul, Now Rest In Eternal Peace

Joe Lynch, a Cavan native, was born on 12th August 1947. He enlisted in the Defence Forces as a member of 40 Cadet Class on 26th October 1965 and was commissioned into the Infantry Corps on 25th September 1967. His initial posting was with 5 Infantry Battalion in Collins Barracks, Dublin and he also served with 8 Infantry Battalion, An Fórsa Cosanta Áitiúil, with 27 Infantry Battalion, and with 29 Infantry Battalion. Overseas Joe was a Platoon Commander with A Company 21 Infantry Group, United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus, from October 1971 to April 1972 and was Assistant Logs Officer with 47 Infantry Battalion, United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon in 1980. He was Second in Command, 29 Infantry Battalion when he retired from the Defence Forces in 1996 to work with Citizens Information and in the tourist industry.

Joe will repose at Clerkin’s Funeral Home (H18YF22) on Wednesday the 9th from 5pm until 8pm. Joe’s funeral procession will arrive at Saint Macartan’s Cathedral on Thursday morning for 11am Funeral Mass, followed by cremation in Lakeland Crematorium, Cavan.
