ARCOIreland regrets to inform its members of the death of Commandant J.G. (Gerry) Ryan of Newbridge, County Kildare and late of Clonmel, County Tipperary. Gerry and his wife Máire (née Drohn) passed away peacefully on 19th February 2018 in the loving care of the staff and nurses of Curragh Lawn Nursing Home. Sadly missed by their loving daughter Geraldine (Parker), grandchildren Alan and Sarah, Máire’s sisters Eithne (Symmes) and Una (Power), their brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, extended family, relatives and friends.

Gerry served with 5 Motor Squadron before commissioning during the Emergency. He completed a Motor Management Course at Bolton Street College and served with the Transport Corps in Clarke Barracks, The Curragh, and in the Army Apprentice School. Retiring from the Defence Forces in 1969 he became a senior staff member with AnCO and later FÁS. He completed a B Comm and M Econ Sci at UCD. Following his retirement from FÁS in 1989 he completed a PhD on the history of apprenticeship in Ireland, at NUI Maynooth.
Gerry and Máire will repose at Anderson & Leahy’s Funeral Home, Newbridge on Wednesday from 4pm with prayers at 7pm. Removal on Thursday morning at 10.30 am to arrive at Saint Conleth’s Parish Church, Newbridge for Mass at 11am. Funeral afterwards to St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Waterford Road, Clonmel, County Tipperary, arriving at approximately 2.15pm. Family flowers only please.
