ARCO regrets to inform its members of the death of Commandant Ciaran Spollen, Annagh, Ballykeeran, County Westmeath and late of Beech park, Athlone. Peacefully, on Thursday, 22nd December 2022. Predeceased by his beloved parents Jack & Girlie. Sadly missed by his loving wife Celia (nee Curry), son David, daughters Jenny and Susan, in-laws, his adoring grandchildren Oscar & Emilia, nephews, nieces, relatives, Defence Forces colleagues and many friends.

Ciaran Spollen was commissioned into the Defence Forces as a Direct Entry Engineer Officer. Most of his home service was spent with 4 Field Engineer Company in Athlone. Ciaran served overseas in UNIFIL in Lebanon where he and Celia, an accomplished violin player, were well known in Naqoura/Nahariya in 1992. He retired from the Defence Forces to run his own engineer consultancy business. Ciaran will also be remembered for his charitable work, and was a former President of the Lions Club in Athlone.
Reposing at Flynn’s Funeral Home, The Strand on Tuesday (27th December) evening from 6pm until 7.30pm. Requiem Mass in Saint Anthony’s Franciscan Church on Wednesday (28th December) morning at 11am followed by cremation afterwards.
