Col Frank Fleming RIP

RIP

ARCO regrets to inform its members of the death of Colonel Francis (Frank) Fleming of Dundrum, Dublin on 28th May 2024 (peacefully) in his 98th year in the exceptional care of Simpsons Hospital, surrounded by his family. Predeceased by his loving wife Philomena. He is survived by his children Marese (Cooney), Ciara (Maloney) and Conor, sons-in-law Seamus and Eamon, grandchildren Greg, Steven, Ezra and Conor, great grandchildren James, Penny and Emma.

Frank Fleming enlisted in the Defence Forces as a member of 20 Cadet Class on 28th November 1946. He was commissioned into the Infantry Corps on 11th November 1948.  Among the many appointments he held, Frank was Camp Commandant McKee Barracks and Officer Commanding McKee Barracks Company, and was also Officer Commanding 2 Infantry Brigade. Overseas Frank served in the Congo (ONUC) as Second-in-Command, A Company, 39 Infantry Battalion from April to October 1963 and in Cyprus (UNFICYP) as Company Commander, A Company, 20 Infantry Group from April to November 1971. He subsequently served with the United Nations Truce Supervision Organisation in the Middle East and was Irish Contingent Commander in Lebanon UNIFIL in 1983.

Reposing at Fanagan’s Funeral Home, Dundrum on Friday (31st May) from 5pm to 7pm. Removal on Saturday morning (1st June) to the Church of the Holy Cross, Dundrum arriving for Funeral Mass at 10am followed by burial at Shanganagh Cemetery.
