Capt Shane Ashe RIP

RIP

ARCO regrets to inform its members of the death of Captain Shane Ashe, Barr na Sráide, Ballyheigue/ Dromkeen West, Causeway, County Kerry and formerly of Newbridge, County Kildare. On Monday 12th June 2023, suddenly, in the exceptional care of the staff of Bons Secours Hospital, Tralee.

Predeceased by his father Matt, he will be sadly missed by his children Muireann and Matthew, and their mother Mary. Also by his heartbroken mother Joan, his brothers Harry, Micheál, Tom and Máirtín, his sisters Sheila and Eileen, his brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, aunts, nephews and nieces, his granddaughter Maia, all his relatives and many Defence Forces colleagues and friends.

Shane Ashe, a proud native of County Kerry, enlisted in the Defence Forces as a member of 52 Cadet Class in 1975. He attended University College Galway and was commissioned on 3rd October 1977 into the Infantry Corps. He was posted to the Curragh Command and served in a variety of appointments there, including as an instructor in the General Training Depot. Overseas Shane served as a platoon commander in C Company, 54 Infantry Battalion, Lebanon, in 1983/84. Shane was a relation of Thomas Ashe, a founding member of the Irish Volunteers, who commanded 5 Battalion, Dublin Brigade, during the 1916 Easter Rising.

Reposing at Casey’s Funeral Home, Causeway on Thursday, 15th June, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., followed by removal to Saint John’s Church, Causeway. Requiem Mass for Shane will be celebrated on Friday 16th June at 12 noon, livestreamed from Saint John’s Church (https://churchmedia.tv/st-john-the-baptist-farran-hill-causeway), followed by burial in Saint John’s Cemetery, Causeway.
