ARCO regrets to inform its members of the death of Captain Sean Berry, Marhaba, Tully East, Kildare Town, County Kildare. Husband of the late Alyce and father of the late Gill, peacefully at Naas Hospital on August 17th, 2021. Sadly missed by his loving son Paddy, daughter Vivienne, daughter-in-law Anne, son-in-law Tom, grandsons Jeff and David, sister Joan, brothers-in-law (including Lieutenant-General Noel Bergin DSM), sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and Defence Forces colleagues and friends.

Sean Berry was a member of 25 Cadet Class (1950-52), was commissioned on 24th November 1952, and served with 13 Infantry Battalion in Clonmel and 3 Infantry Battalion in the Curragh. He was a son of Lieutenant-Colonel Paddy Berry of GHQ and the Military College who was a member of the Irish Military Mission to the USA in 1926. Sean served overseas as an observer in India, Pakistan, and the Middle East. He retired from the Defence Forces in 1973 and joined the Irish Thoroughbred Breeders Association until his retirement in 1995. In 1983, in his capacity as Chairman of that organisation, Sean was involved in attempts to recover the racehorse Shergar.
Removal by Glennons Funeral Directors from McWeys Funeral Home, Abbeyview, Kildare Town on Saturday (21st August) to arrive at Saint Brigid’s Parish Church, Kildare Town, for Requiem Mass at 12 noon. Mass will be live streamed on https://mcnmedia.tv/ Burial afterwards in Saint Conleth’s Cemetery, Kildare Town.
Due to current government guidelines regarding public gatherings, a private family funeral will take place with a maximum of 50 people to attend the church.
