ARCO regrets to inform its members of the death of Captain John Clarke, Cornelscourt, Newbridge, County Kildare and late of Ballyknockan, County Wicklow on 24th March 2022. Sadly missed by his loving wife Elsie, sons and daughter, Jim, Maria, Sean, Pat and Peter, daughters-in-law Fran, Bernie, Eimear and Geraldine, son-in-law Major-General Kieran Brennan (Retd), grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, extended family, relatives, Defence Forces colleagues and friends.

John Clarke joined the Defence Forces as a member of 23 Cadet Class (1949-1951) and was commissioned on 8th May 1951. He served for most of his career in the Curragh and, overseas, as an unarmed observer with the United Nations Truce Supervision Organisation in the Middle East in 1969. John retired from the Defence Forces as a Captain and, with his wife Elsie, founded the Johnstown Garden Centre on a greenfield site in the Norman village of Johnstown, Naas, County Kildare in 1974. The Centre will be in business 48 years this August.
Reposing at his residence from 5pm on Sunday with prayers at 7pm. House strictly private at all other times. Removal by Anderson & Leahy Funeral Directors, Newbridge on Monday afternoon at 1pm to arrive at Saint Conleth’s Parish Church, Newbridge for Mass at 1.30pm. Mass will be live streamed on https://newbridgeparish.ie/parish-church. Funeral afterwards to St. Conleth’s Cemetery, Newbridge. Family flowers only please.
