ARCO regrets to inform its members of the death of Captain Edel Douris-O’Halloran of Youghal, County Cork and Piltown, Kinsalebeg, County Waterford, peacefully, on Friday 9th June 2023, at Marymount University Hospital and Hospice Cork. Lovingly remembered by her husband Roger, adored children Kate and Eoin, her parents Jack and Mary Douris, sister Linda, brothers John, Brian, Francis and Gavin, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, special friend Sue, relatives, neighbours, Defence Forces colleagues and friends.

May Edel Rest in Peace

Mary Edel Douris was born in September 1963 and enlisted in the Defence Forces as a Cadet with 58 Cadet Class in November 1981. Commissioned in March 1983 into the Infantry Corps, she served in the Southern and Western Commands in a wide variety of appointments, including that as ADC to the General Officer Commanding Southern Command. Overseas Edel served with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon as Assistant Operations Officer, 77 Infantry Battalion, from May to November 1995. Edel retired from the Defence Forces in 2019 with the rank of Captain.

Edel will repose at Egan’s Funeral Home Greencloyne, Youghal on Monday from 6pm until 7.30pm.

Requiem Mass on Tuesday in Saint Bartholomew’s Church, Piltown, Kinsalebeg at 11am with burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.
