ARCO regrets to inform its members of the death of Captain Declan Whelan of Clonskeagh, Dublin. Peacefully, on Sunday 27th February 2022 in his 92nd year, in the wonderful care of all in Vergemount, Clonskeagh. Loved and loving husband of Brenda for 65 years, and dear father of Barbara, Adrienne, David, Una and Brian. Proud grandfather of Orlaith, Niall, Eoin, Cillian, Kevin, Declan and Liên, and great-grandfather to his six great grandchildren. Sadly missed by his brother Kieran, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, extended family, Defence Forces colleagues and friends. Predeceased by his brothers Niall and Brian.

Declan was a member of the 6 Young Officers Wings Course 1951/52. He earned his Wings and served in the Air Corps before retiring to take up employment with Aer Lingus and the NRB.
Reposing at his home from 4 pm to 7 pm on Thursday (3rd March). Removal on Friday morning (4th March) to the Church of St Thérèse, Mount Merrion, arriving for Funeral Mass at 10 am (which can be viewed live at this link: https://www.mountmerrionparish.ie/webcam/), followed by cremation at 12.15 pm in the Victorian Chapel at Mount Jerome (which can be viewed live at this link https://www.mountjerome.ie/victorian-chapel-service/).
