ARCO regrets to inform its members of the death of Captain Brendan Kenny of Arconagh, Naas, County Kildare, who passed away peacefully, surrounded by love, at home on Sunday, 23rd March 2025. Pre-deceased by his father Michael. Brendan is deeply missed by his devoted wife Claire, his loving daughters Síne, Eilis and Cera, his mother Esther, father-in-law Timmy Treacy (Scarriff, County Clare) brothers Liam, Kevin and Colm, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, uncles Denis and Seán Dunne, nephews. nieces, relatives, Defence Forces comrades and a large circle of friends.

Brendan Kenny was born in Naas, County Kildare, on 5th September 1964 and enlisted in the Defence Forces as a member of the 59 Cadet Class on 29th November 1982. He was commissioned into the Infantry Corps on 2nd April 1984 and was posted to 28 Infantry Battalion, Donegal, where he served in a variety of appointments as a Lieutenant. He attended University College Galway, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce degree in 1987. He was subsequently posted to 6 Infantry Battalion in Athlone and also served in the Command Training Depot of the Western Command as a training officer. 

Overseas Brendan deployed to UNIFIL in Lebanon three times with Irish Battalions – with C Company 65 Infantry Battalion in 1989, with C Company 68 Infantry Battalion in 1990/1991 and with C Company 70 Infantry Battalion in 1991/1992. In 1995 he served in UNIFIL Headquarters as Personal Staff Officer to the Deputy Force Commander, Brigadier-General Pearse Redmond. Brendan completed a Master’s Degree in Human Resources at University College Dublin and was subsequently posted to Enlisted Personnel Section in Defence Forces Headquarters. From there he retired in 2001 in the rank of Captain. After military service Brendan worked for a number of organisations including the Commission for Communications Regulation (ComReg), the National Council for the Blind of Ireland and as a Development Officer with Kildare GAA. He recently returned from work with the European Union Capacity Building Mission in Somalia.

Brendan was an accomplished sportsman representing UCG in athletics at Intervarsity level and at unit level was active in soccer, GAA and military pentathlon. He was one of the key people who built Naas Camogie into the thriving organisation it is today. In 2013 he was made Kildare Camogie Volunteer of the year for his outstanding work in promoting and developing Camogie throughout the county.

Reposing at his residence (W91FTX9) on Tuesday from 2pm, with concluding prayers at 7pm. House private at all other times please. Removal on Wednesday at 9.30am to arrive at The Church of Our Lady and Saint David, Naas for 10am Funeral Mass, followed by burial in Mainham Cemetery, Clane.
