Capt Roger O’Shea RIP

ARCO regrets to inform its members of the death of Captain Roger O’Shea, Julianstown, County Meath, and formerly of Naas and County Dublin. Passed away peacefully at his home on December 10th, 2024, aged 75 years, surrounded by his loving family.

Predeceased by his baby daughter Jennifer, parents Nora and Colonel Tadhg (Deputy Judge Advocate General), sister Maria, and brothers Michael and John. Beloved husband and best friend to Eithne, loving father to Ruth, Andrew, Mark, and David. Deeply missed by his daughters-in-law Yvonne and Lauren, grandchildren Alex, Macklyn, Finn, and Clara, sisters Thérèse and Noelle, brother Peter, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, extended family, his many friends, Air Corps and Defence Forces comrades, and former colleagues.

Roger O’Shea enlisted in the Defence Forces as a member of the 4 Air Corps Cadet Class in 1967, which trained initially with 42 Cadet Class. He was awarded his Pilots Wings and Commission in 1969.  He was also awarded the “DK Johnson Cup” for having amassed the highest score during flying training exercises. Roger went on to serve in Fighter Squadron flying the DH Vampire jet fighter trainer before being selected to undergo 17 Flying Instructors Course in 1972. He then served as a staff instructor teaching elementary and advanced flying skills to cadets. Notably he was involved in the initial conversion to, and delivery of, the Vampire’s replacement, the CM 170 Fouga Magister in 1975.

Roger retired from the Defence Forces in 1977 going on to complete his career in Air Lingus, notably on long haul trans-Atlantic operations.

Reposing at his home on Friday, December 13th, from 4pm to 8pm. Funeral service celebrating Roger’s life will take place on Saturday, December 14th, at 10am in Dardistown Crematorium, Dublin (K67 HP26).
