ARCO regrets to inform its members of the death, on Friday 12th August 2022, of Commandant Patrick (Pat) Donnelly of Terenure, Dublin. Peacefully, in the company of his family, while in the tender care of the doctors and nurses at Our Lady’s Hospice, Harold’s Cross. Sadly missed and deeply regretted by his loving wife Carmel and his sons Rob, Mark and Cian, daughter-in-law Erika, treasured grandchildren Thomas and Grace, Mark and Cian’s partners Megan and Lana, his sister Deirdre (Dee) sisters-in-law, brother-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family, neighbours Defence Forces colleagues and friends.

Pat Donnelly was a member of 8 Air Corps Cadet Class which trained initially with 50 Cadet Class in the Curragh from late 1973. On 27th August 1974 Pat and the other Air Corps Cadets left for Baldonnel to begin their Wings Course. Pat served mostly in Helicopter Squadron and later in Number 3 Support Wing. He completed 20 Flying Instructors Course in 1980 and in March 1976 flew the last De Havilland Vampire T55 sortie in aircraft number 191 whilst serving in Fighter Squadron. Pat retired from the Defence Forces to join Aer Lingus and concluded his career with that company having flown Fokker 50s, Boeing 737s and Airbus 320s.
Pat will repose at Fanagan’s Funeral Home, Willbrook, Rathfarnham, on Monday, 15th August, from 5pm to 7.30pm. A celebration of Pat’s life will take place in the Victorian Chapel, Mount Jerome, on Tuesday, 16th August at 1pm followed by cremation.
