Lt. Col. Norman Leckey RIP

ARCOIreland regrets to inform its members of the death of Lieutenant Colonel Norman Leckey, late of Rathfarnham and formerly of Ranelagh, Dublin. On 30th April 2020, peacefully in his 93rd year, in the loving care of the staff in Saint Vincent’s Hospital. Beloved husband of Patricia and loving father to Gerald, Denise and Yvonne. Sadly missed by his loving wife, children, grandchildren Claire, Marie, Geraldine, Aisling, and Matthew, great-granddaughters Juliette and Lucia, sons-in-law John and Chris, sister-in-law Nuala, nieces, nephews, extended family, relatives, friends and neighbours.

Norman Leckey was a member of 23 Cadet Class (1949 – 1951). He was commissioned into the Infantry Corps and posted to Clonmel, County Tipperary. He served as a Company Commander in 2 Infantry Battalion under Lieutenant General Bill Callaghan in the early 1970s. He was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel in 1980 and appointed Officer Commanding 3 Infantry Battalion. Norman spent much of his career in Intelligence Section.

Due to current government restrictions regarding public gatherings, a private funeral will take place in the coming days. A service to celebrate Norman’s life will take place at a later date.
