ARCOIreland regrets to inform its members of the death of Commandant Paddy Fitzgerald of Fairview, Dublin (peacefully) on November 5th, 2018 at the Mater Hospital. Beloved husband of the late Eileen and loving father of Elaine, Gerard, Jeannette, Fiona, Anthony and the late Patrick. Devoted grandad to Jennifer, Melissa, Robert, Nicole, Christopher and Alannah (Healy), Daniel and Alex (Fitzgerald), Stephen and Ciara (Dowling), Emma and Sarah (Doran), Maiya, Mischa, Zoey, Liam and Eoin (Fitzgerald). Sadly missed by his loving family, sons-in-law Joe, Eamonn and David, daughters-in-law Anne and Edith, sisters Barbara and Fran, extended family, relatives, neighbours and friends.
Paddy was a former member of the old 26 Battalion and following integration of an Fórsa Cosanta Áitiúil and the Permanent Defence Force in 1959, with 7 Battalion. He had a long association with Collins Barracks, Dublin and after serving on full time duty during the 1970s, was later commissioned into the Permanent Defence Force, where he served in Headquarters Eastern Command.
Paddy will repose at the Kirwan Funeral Home, Fairview Strand on Wednesday (November 7th) from 5pm to 7pm with family in attendance. Removal to St. Vincent de Paul Church, Marino on Thursday (November 8th) arriving at 9.50am for 10am Requiem Mass followed by burial at Fingal Cemetery. Family flowers only please.
